Mentor-Protégé Program

Providing beneficial developmental assistance to small businesses

The Mentor-Protégé Program is designed to improve the performance of contracts and subcontracts, foster the establishment of long-term business relationships between large prime contractors and small business subcontractors, and increase subcontracting opportunities and accomplishments. Ultimately, the MPP goal is to assist small businesses to expand the overall base of their marketplace participation and to produce more jobs and increase national income. 

General Dynamics demonstrates our commitment to improving and strengthening small business performance by participating in a variety of federal Mentor-Protégé programs, including with the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, NASA and others.

Various U.S. government agencies have their own unique MPPs. To learn more about the individual agency programs, please consult with the appropriate Government Small Business Office for detailed information on specific programs and their requirements.

If you qualify to participate in a specific agencies MPP, and have an interest in participating in the MPP with a GD business unit, please contact the appropriate Supplier Liaison.


Mentor Protégé Readiness Checklist:

Are you a current subcontractor with General Dynamics? 

The Mentor-Protégé Program is a huge commitment for both mentors and mentees. Therefore, General Dynamics does not pursue MPP relationships with businesses that we do not already have an active working relationship with.


Do you have a contact at General Dynamics that will serve as your “champion?” 

We strongly recommend working closely your GD management team to ensure program “buy-in.” The program team has final ownership of any MPP agreements and is a great starting point for businesses looking to learn more about the program.


Have you identified your federal client’s “pain-points” and upcoming opportunities?

Our most successful MPP agreements occur when the future goals of the small business align with the needs of the customer. A well-developed pipeline and relevant customer intimacy provides a strong incentive for a pursuing an MPP agreement.


Do you know which Mentor-Protégé Program you are interested in pursuing?

There are several different MPP programs including the SBA, DoD, NASA, and others. Research the different available programs and identify the best fit for your business.
